I find Odysseus a cruel, cunning sea pirate who would say anything to get whatever he wants. Why so many people admire and fight for him is beyond me, except they share the same gory, vengeful mind. The story makes it seem understandable, if not morally justified, for him to slaughter all his wife's suitors. But all they did was eat his food and drink his wine while courting her. In the logic of this strange world, that amounts to an unforgivable crime people must pay with their lives. Had they ...more
