What Members Thought

A quick, but good read. I liked the ending; happy, yet not unrealistically happy. Well, a little unrealistic.
Good characters for the most part. I liked Lina, but I liked her brother, Jonas, and some of the minor characters more, characters who painted more realistic and varied images of that time in history. And I liked how lina describes them; some by name, some by characteristic (i.e. The cranky lady). Overall, a good book. I read it in one day. I think my students will enjoy it as well. If I ...more

Picked this Y/A book up on a whim at the library and wound up purchasing a copy. A tremendous novel based on a young girl's experiences in a Siberian prison camp during WWII. The Lithuanians don't get nearly enough coverage in the history books. Excellent crisp writing.
