This was an excellent memoir of a remarkable young woman. Malala was a somewhat unconventional girl - her father and mother had encouraged her education despite cultural pressures for her to drop it. She grew up in turbulent times - political assassinations, bombings, the rise of the Taliban. Her story makes you appreciate the basic freedoms that we enjoy - freedom to speak your mind, freedom to practice (or not practice) your religion as you see fit.
