I recommend anyone who wants to get into this book watch an adaptation first, particularly the famous BBC miniseries with Colin Firth. Then read this, and be patient, and keep that adaptation in mind.
Because Austen's a great satirist, she pretty much originated the romantic comedy, and her female characters aren't just remarkable for their time, they're remarkable period. So many people love this book, and you are almost considered a 'Philistine' if you don't but I just found this book to be really dull. It just did not grab me at all, and I found mot of the characters annoying.
There seemed to be a lot of people wandering around doing very little and seeking out wealthy husbands and a way to live very comfortably.
