I first read this book when I was young - 12 or so - and I remember thinking that I really liked it, and I found it haunting, but I didn't get it. Of course I didn't; I was 12!
I reread it now for the Jane Eyre Challenge. Earlier, I didn't get the fuss about Mr. Rochester. I get it now. I love that Bronte takes the time to truly develop these characters subtly. I enjoyed every moment of the journey with Jane Eyre. This is an amazingly delicately told story, and I wish I had found my way to it sooner. I can see this being a book a go back to again and again for comfort and escapism. Given the experience with this novel, I look forward to reading others from Charlotte and her sisters.
