This was a re-read after 15 years. I still enjoyed reading this book as much as I did earlier and consider it among my very favorite books. However, I can see that 15 years have changed the way I look at several aspects of the book. The biggest change for me has been in the way I see the character of St. John Rivers. 15 years ago, the younger and more romantic me had little sympathy for this character, but now I am better able to understand his perspective and am far more sympathetic toward him. ...more
