What Members Thought

Ted Curtis
Scholars would have you believe that Jane Eyre is some kind of strong, independent Victorian heroine, yet every time she gets herself a new arsehole boyfriend, she persistently refers to him as MY MASTER. Very modern, I’m sure. And why does the one she eventually marries keep calling her Janet? Is there another secret wifey hidden away in the attic of another mansion somewhere? Too many unanswered questions in this one.

The first of those books that seem to wind up on all those classic, must-read, one hundred best books of all time, lists that I actually thought was ok. Bit wordy but still a fairly good read. Or was I influenced by the fact that I quite like the television adaptation?
