What Members Thought

I knew going in that this was a Cancer Book, but I had heard so much about it and I have enough distance to read these kind of books again. Why distance? Well, in 2004, my beautiful 12 year old daughter was diagnosed with a rare form of osteosarcoma. Remember Augustus talking about the 80% cure rate? I wouldn't change a word. The pacing and unfolding is good. What makes the novel are the people.
I'm not calling them characters. They are people. They are selfish, funny, frustrating, kind. Most importantly they are real. They are ordinary. They are ordinary people, living their lives ordinarily. They are as special as you and me. They simply ring true. There is no hero worshipping. They are just trying to get by to tomorrow.
I thoroughly enjoyed it and would recommend it to anyone. ...more
