"What do you lead, Rune Sun?"
Rune Saint John's trial by fire started twenty years ago for him.
It's safe to say The Hourglass Throne is the readers' first trial by fire.
I mark periods of my life by the books I read. Snapshots of me flipping through pages in vivid technicolour settings are burned into my brain when other memories have faded. I think we all do it in one way or another. Those of us who are in love with stories and people made of pulp and ink.

My most anticipated book of the year didn't disappoint. The ending to the first trilogy of this Tarot Sequence was everything I was expecting and more. It had me glued to its pages and very anxious not being sure if I wanted to know what was going to come. I'm going to put everything under spoiler tags, so read under your own responsability.

The wonder of this series is that it can be, and is, so many different things at once. It is action and slow, still moments of introspection. It is grief and healing. It is fear and horror and loyalty and love. And magic.
Rather than crumble under the weight of all of this, though, the series somehow thrives in the chaos and life of it all. Take away even one of these things and the series falls apart. Fortunately, the characters—and we readers—have been blessed with an author who knows how to j ...more

Given the fantastic novella, The Sunken Mall, and additional short stories available between The Hanged Man and The Hourglass Throne, I'm feeling pretty good about how The Hourglass Throne will turn out. So excited for it's completion!

Ngl I need to reread this book because when it came out I had covid, and I think I missed a lot through sheer inability to process much. That aside / despite that, it was deeply enjoyable and I loved crying happy and sad tears over my faves. I adore how this series is developing and the care KD puts into the growth of this world and its core cast.

Do you remember, dear reader – for I presume that if you’re here, it’s because you’ve already read and loved the previous books in this series, and if you have not, then get you hence and read them before you read this review of book three! – do you remember, dear reader, when, in The Last Sun, Rune used a mass sigil for the first time?
This is like that.

If you are emotionally invested in these characters (and how could you not be if you've read the previous two books), be warned that you will scream and cry. If you're anything like me, you'll also feel the urge to send the author some strongly worded DMs. However, you will also have to admit to the author that you love him for the growth and healing the characters experience. Absolutely pick up The Hourglass Throne, but make sure you have adequate time to process the emotional damage before you

*throws emotions at the screen* I didn’t know what to say when I read the ARC, And I STILL don’t know how to put how much I love this book into words. Being able to see KD grow as an author has been a special gift. Being able to hear Josh improve as a narrator has been a gift. Give both these men awards cuz I am so beyond proud

I was given my eARC by the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
Honestly... I adored this book but it wasn't without pain. I think it was the perfect end to the first "trilogy" arc of The Tarot Sequence. I loved how many moments that, when I reread the first two books, I realized had been strongly hinted to prior.

I don't think I've ever had my life sucked so completely into a series as this one. The first book was excellent, the second was even better than the first, and now, by some miracle, the third book has topped both previous.
KD keeps increasing the emotion, the family, and the stakes, and I cannot wait to see where it goes next. It's obvious he has a clear endgame to achieve, and I trust him every step of the way. ...more

Wow...this one hurt my feelings guys. 100 out of 10, but honestly it's 4 am right now and I can't do a review of this book justice. All I can say is read The Tarot Sequence, because it is a truly exceptional series. Nothing else compares.
