Amazing book! I’m so glad it got voted in our bookclub! Fantastic writing, and the plot is just stellar. It is a true page turner, and I really liked it.

To view it, click here. great rec by ami someone make ami the supreme leader of book club so she can choose all the books. to be fair this is the only book club book i actually read and i’m not even going to the next meeting but whatevs 😁 anyways starting with the good i really enjoyed the pacing of the book and the plot overall it was SO interesting and the interview format is a good way to make a character driven book also have really engaging plot!!! despite that i am not usually a fan of interview format cause it a great rec by ami someone make ami the supreme leader of book club so she can choose all the books. to be fair this is the only book club book i actually read and i’m not even going to the next meeting but whatevs 😁 anyways starting with the good i really enjoyed the pacing of the book and the plot overall it was SO interesting and the interview format is a good way to make a character driven book also have really engaging plot!!! despite that i am not usually a fan of interview format cause it always un- suspends my disbelief a bit bc like obviously people do not speak the same way that novels are written so i find it a tinge unrealistic but i am willing to look past it 😋 ANYWAYS the major pluses of the book were the parts where evelyn was narrating they were so well written it was just SO good however i did not as much enjoy the present tense writing aka moniques chapters because i felt like her inner monologue was very cliche. like i felt like a lot of her thoughts were gotten off of a i support poc facebook forum, as well as some of the dialogue between her and evelyn where she was constantly mistepping when she speaks and then giving like a celebrity has a woke pr team style apology afterwards which may be just because taylor jenkins reid is white (i think????) if i’m wrong idk ig i’m just a hater. like obviously i thought it was realistic she made mistakes and tripped over her words when discussing evelyn’s identity as bi and it was good she apologized but it just didn’t feel like something a real person would say to someone. ALSO when discussing her own identity as biracial the vibes were diaspora slam poetry about being caught between two worlds which irked me a bit, i think there were more meaningful ways they could’ve included her identity in the book but eye digress. ANYWAYS onto the last part of the book the twist was very surprising i def did not see it coming !!! idk how to feel about it though because while i thought it was really interesting i wish we had seen more of moniques reaction to it / dialogue w evelyn about it but then the book just like ends!!!! that honestly was my main problem w moniques part in the book like she was just very underdeveloped imo. she had so much potential to be as strong of a character as evelyn but all she got was a shy unassertive girl to girlboss arc??? AND the whole thing about her ending her marriage was SOO rushed like i wanted to see her really work through it but it was like a 3 min convo and then it was over. and she like wasnt even sad at all which also i felt like was unrealistic but anywho. despite these things i loved the characters they were both so well done and this book was like the perfect balance between a plot book and a character driven book great read😈😈‼️ ...more
