On the surface, this is a novel of magical realism, but underneath it is a story about the strength that can be found in womanhood and through bonds with our ancestral lineage. I totally get those people saying this is a book about women being mistreated by men, but there’s so much more to it than just that. The interplay between the three Weyward women separated by centuries was marvelous and very seamlessly done. I also enjoyed their unique relationship with nature and insects. It was also cool finding out the little mysteries, like how the Weyward line continues after Violet’s series of unfortunate events and how Kate got the bee brooch.
