I have seen many adaptations of A Christmas Carol but had not read or listened to the book in a very long time so I wanted to remind myself of the original. Published in 1843, it has held up well over the years as both a heartwarming tale of redemption and a reminder of the need for compassion and kindness in the world. I just finished reading this for the first time (at age 34!). I've seen countless adaptations over the years, but this was my first time actually engaging with the original story.
It was good but not great, in my opinion. I hadn't realized before going into it that it was so incredibly short! I felt like it moved far too quickly & that there wasn't sufficient time to really flesh out Scrooge's character. There is nothing new I can add to what have already been said about it. I was just thinking why it took me so long to finally decide to read it.
Charles Dickens had the gift of creating unforgettable characters, and Ebenezer Scrooge is definitely one of them.
It’s funny though that he wrote to pay off a debt!
