This book tells the true story of D.C. Stephenson, a charismatic psychopath who played a primary role in the rise of the Ku Klux Klan in Indiana in the 1920s. He built an organization by spreading fear of the other, particularly blacks, Catholics, Jews, and immigrants. He profited from memberships and merchandise and lived lavishly in a huge mansion.
