Sometimes there are books that you just have to get to the end to make it worth it. This is one of those books. For 80% of it, I felt like saying, "Ok, get on with the story. Just get to San Diego already!" Then that ending happens and I find myself a blubbering mess crying over giraffes. Overall this was just an okay story for me. “Time spent with animals is added to your life”

this book is my first read by this author and was a book club pick, but it has been on my to read list for a while. i am not really sure why i put off reading it for so long because it was really good! this is historical fiction but based on a true story. that actually made me appreciate it more knowing that it is an important part of history. i have been to several zoos and have seen giraffes at almost all of them so it was quite interesting to lea ...more
