I'm not sure why some readers have shelved this as 'Horror'. My definition of horror means that there is something paranormal or other worldly like a ghost. This book has none of that. Although the story told is horrific, everything is perpetrated by humans, against other humans.

I have to admit that I didn't enjoy this as much as Marrs' earlier book, What Lies Between Us. While the short chapters and snippets of information from many different time periods kept me engaged, and I did ferret out ...more

Just when you think you know who's the culprit, he surprises you.

I love how complex this book was and to think John Marrs got it in a dream! That's just amazing. I mean the entire book was caught me from the beginning. I was in the midst of another book, but my cousin recommended this. So I thought I'd just take a peek at it first, and down the rabbit hole I go!

Shelves: mystery-thriller-legal

This was a fast paced book, told from various POVs. I was engaged in the plot and the ending was definitely creepy. Parts were predictable, yet I still enjoyed the book overall.
