Four pensioners in the retirement estate of Coopers Chase in rural Kent spent their time reviewing unsolved murders. But one day the construction manager of the estate is bludgeoned to death in his kitchen and they have a real murder to investigate. I loved the very British humour, the cast of characters and tone.

They had got away with it, as some people do, I'm afraid. The older you get the more you have to come to terms with that.

Big is the same as small. There's just more of it.

If you fail to prepare, you prepare to fail.

If you don't cry sometimes, you'll end up crying all the time.

I like to see men being men, up to a point.

Choice is overrated; you'll learn that as the years go by.

These characters make you smile as you read (and even laugh out loud here and there). Although it has a cozy mystery feel, this mystery has a few good twists thrown in to keep you guessing

This is the most fun I have had reading for a while. The dialogue was enjoyable, the locations were nicely described, and the characters seemed real, Elizabeth frightened me a little. So smart. I am looking forward to the next in the series, but I think I'll put a few books ahead of it. ...more

This is a fun read. I loved the characters and all the twists and turns. Just when I thought I had figured it out something new information is discovered. So many suspects!! Very well done. Looking forward to the new book!

It took many pages before I became involved with this book. Lots of twists and turns in this story, many of which I did not see coming. I do plan to read the next book in the series.

This was overall a 3.75 for me. I had never heard of the series, but it was a choice for my online book group and it looked interesting. It started out a little slow and I wasn't sure I wanted to continue, but the more I read, the more I enjoyed the characters. The mysteries turned out to be interested, it was humorous and also poignant. I definitely plan on reading the next one in the series. ...more

Even "older" individuals can be feisty, curious, and quite determined; even older individuals living in a specially designed and designated "over sixty-five" rural English community. Or so author Richard Osman illustrates, in this tale of Seniors expanding their twilight horizons as "The Thursday Murder Club." ...more
