4.5 stars. I almost gave this up at the beginning and I’m really glad I didn’t. It comes off as much lighter than it really is. I’m so glad this is the start of a series because I wish I could jump right into the next one. Because the amateur detectives are elderly, it may appeal more to the plus 50s out there but I think anyone would enjoy the humor and the human interest angles in this.

I saw this on a friend's shelf (Susan) and decided it sounded fun. I really enjoyed it! I loved the setting of the luxurious retirement home. Even though it mentioned some of the real and sad sides to this time in life, it also showcased the good points. Four red stars which is high praise for a first-of-series cozy mystery. It's humorous in that subtle British way, and convoluted enough to keep you guessing. Perhaps a bit too many threads, but I didn't care - it was a fun ride. It got off to a slow start, and there are a lot of characters to keep track of. Clever and satisfying, the characters come to life on the page and add dimension and twists with a bit of humor to this well plotted mystery with smart, capable, charming and determined murder club members.
