This was probably my most anticipated read for the new year. I love gothic settings and twisty plots. It was enjoyable enough to hold my interest, but unfortunately it bears some resemblance to two other books I'd read recently, so it didn't feel as fresh as I'd hoped. This was not the book the blurb promised. It's not a good book, it's not a bad book. It's a mediocre, overly academic, trek through a summer of crappy people doing crappy, and stupid things.
I read a ton of mysteries, the "who" of the done it, unless you've never read a mystery book, is obvious from the beginning. There's a lot of misdirection and ridiculous nonsense that our "heroine" does, like shoving things in her purse that don't belong there.
