Intelligent and motivated young people start a tech company, including idea generation, game development, teamwork, and personal interactions. The title brings to mind the idea of playing a video game again and again and dying over and over. It is well-written with complex believable characters. I very much enjoyed the first half, but I think it loses its way toward the end by including an unexpected twist and lots of melodrama. I also think it is too long. Words escape me... The amount of hard work and research the author put into this odyssey of a story is absolutely incredible and tangible in the tears and gasps it induced page after page. I was always in some state of emotional whiplash. What a cast of complex characters given such tender nuance to allow their personalities the room to unravel, as well. Man, I really wanted to finish out 2022 with this book. I missed it by a couple of hours. This was a fantastic book. I loved watching how Sadie and Sam's relationship evolved over the years and how they continued to dance around each other building worlds together, yet separately. I loved seeing Marx enter the picture and become such a critical part of the unit. This was not a cliche, happy ever after kind of book. It was so authentic.
