I wasn't sure if I would enjoy this book focusing on the lives of three game developers but of course I should have known that coming from Gabrielle Zevin, it would be about so much more. I'm travelling at the moment so will come back and write a longer review later but if you enjoy great writing, imagination and in depth characters with complex relationships who experience everything that life can throw at them then this is a brilliant and engrossing read. I even enjoyed reading about the gamin

I jumped in and was really excited about this book through about the first 3rd. Then it slowed a bit for me and I thought I was going to ultimately be disappointed. In the end though, I loved this story, these flawed characters, and realized again the power of vulnerability to make us see and be seen. Wonderful, wonderful experience!

Intelligent and motivated young people start a tech company, including idea generation, game development, teamwork, and personal interactions. The title brings to mind the idea of playing a video game again and again and dying over and over. It is well-written with complex believable characters. I very much enjoyed the first half, but I think it loses its way toward the end by including an unexpected twist and lots of melodrama. I also think it is too long. The whole Pioneer section could have b

When a book on a topic that I'm not that knowledgeable on or interested in can grab me like this, it is something very special. I was truly invested in these characters even when they were acting in ways that frustrated or upset me, I really wanted everything to turn out well for them. I feel like I went on a journey through the ups and downs of their lives and was celebrating and commiserating with them.

Man, I really wanted to finish out 2022 with this book. I missed it by a couple of hours. This was a fantastic book. I loved watching how Sadie and Sam's relationship evolved over the years and how they continued to dance around each other building worlds together, yet separately. I loved seeing Marx enter the picture and become such a critical part of the unit. This was not a cliche, happy ever after kind of book. It was so authentic. It was painful to watch how miscommunication and misundersta

I was completely blindsided by this book. I usually take a peek at the synopsis, so I have a clue about a book I'm about to read, but this book had been on my TBR for a while and I kept seeing it in every bookstore, so all I knew was that I thought it would be fabulous and I wanted to read it ASAP. I am not into gaming at all. I am in the generation where my kids played Mario. I agree with other reviewers that this book is much more than about gaming and learning some about that industry was int
