What Members Thought

I jumped in and was really excited about this book through about the first 3rd. Then it slowed a bit for me and I thought I was going to ultimately be disappointed. In the end though, I loved this story, these flawed characters, and realized again the power of vulnerability to make us see and be seen. Wonderful, wonderful experience!

This life is filled with inescapable moral compromises. We should do what we can to avoid the easy ones.

When a book on a topic that I'm not that knowledgeable on or interested in can grab me like this, it is something very special. I was truly invested in these characters even when they were acting in ways that frustrated or upset me, I really wanted everything to turn out well for them. I feel like I went on a journey through the ups and downs of their lives and was celebrating and commiserating with them.

I decided to read this book based on the cover and I did not read the description. It was an unexpected and unique story for me and I doubt I will forget it. It always left me a little bit melancholy. I liked the characters although they could be frustrating which made them feel very real. For me, this was a story about relationships and I enjoyed seeing the multiple points of view and how they saw each other's actions. The writing, especially in the beginning of the book, felt pretentious.

I was completely blindsided by this book. I usually take a peek at the synopsis, so I have a clue about a book I'm about to read, but this book had been on my TBR for a while and I kept seeing it in every bookstore, so all I knew was that I thought it would be fabulous and I wanted to read it ASAP. I am not into gaming at all. I am in the generation where my kids played Mario. I agree with other reviewers that this book is much more than about gaming and learning some about that industry was int

I loved the evolution of Sam & Sadie's relationship and the balance of gaming & classics...and of course, the Shakespeare quote.
