I am in between a 3 and 4 star with this book. I'm not a gamer so I wasn't initially drawn to this book. But after so many people reviewed it saying you don't need to be a gamer to enjoy this book I had to find out what the rave was all about.
I did like this book. The first part of the book I loved. The relationship between Sadie and Sam was really intriguing. I was completely drawn in (even though I didn't know half of the gaming stuff). In the second part there were a few chapters that drew o ...more

A story of love, life, loss and forgiveness. I play video games a lot so I appreciated the origins on how they are made and how much passion goes into making them. Sadie was a character that I had a hard time liking, often feeling frustrated and annoyed by her character. Marx however was my favorite character and wish his story was different. Overall I enjoyed the story and found the ending satisfying.

Thanks to Libro.FM for letting me review this ARC audiobook.
This is a friendship saga that spans 30 years. They are not always the best of friends, but they know each other like they know themselves, and love each other, even when they don't like each other. It's a story of trauma, grief, and video games.

Sadie's sister is receiving treatment for cancer, and Sam is recovering from a series of surgeries after a tragic car accident. They bond over their shared love of video games in the gaming room of the hospital. However, when Sam discovers that Sadie has been tallying her visits to fulfill her bat mitzvah service, he feels like her charity project instead of a friend. It ends the fast friendship abruptly, but they find one another again in college when Sadie shares another computer game she has

This book is between 4 & 4.5 stars for me. It is heavy on the video game world, but don't let that deter you from reading it. It is a wonderful story with wonderful characters that I will be thinking about for quite some time. What kept me from giving it 5 stars is that it got a wee bit too bogged down in some of the video game/gaming descriptions and that also that I was a wee bit frustrated with Sadie. Definitely a good read!

I enjoyed this story. The video game theme wasn't a negative for someone in their sixties either.I remember playing Oregon Trail with my boys when we got our first home computer...the nostalgia was really fun. The characters were the draw. I loved Sam and Marx and the grandparents. I was especially engaged with Sam and worried for and about him. Sadie was the character I had a hard time with. I would have liked more personal growth for her character. I found her selfish and cruel at times, and s

I didn't know what to expect when I started reading this. I'm not a gamer and was worried that's what it would ultimately be about but I was so wrong. So, so wrong. This is one of my favorite reads! Yes, there's gaming and programming and all of those things I know nothing about in it but, ultimately, it's a book about friendship. It's not just about any friendship though. It's about the rare friendship where you can disappear from each other's lives for days, weeks, months or years but as soon
