What a read! I typically go into highly recommended books with warriness and an open mind so as not to be disappointed. This book exceeded any expectations I may have had and I was incapable of putting it down.

I had hoped to find this book cute but instead found Olive to be incredibly annoying. For someone so intelligent she is incredibly dense, whiney and blind. How can she NOT see that Adam is really into her?! Also for someone that has seen so many romcoms how does she not understand how the game works?! It got to the point where I just didn’t care if she ended up with Adam or not because she was so dull.

“I wish you could see yourself the way I see you.”

so i have read quite a few fake dating trope stories but this one was definitely a good one. this book was my first read by this author and one of those cute and fun rom coms that you say just one more chapter then read almost the entire book in one or two sittings. i read it pretty quickly because i really enjoyed it. the witty banter, the chemistry and interaction between the two main characters who both clearly had feelings for the other long “I wish you could see yourself the way I see you.”

so i have read quite a few fake dating trope stories but this one was definitely a good one. this book was my first read by this author and one of those cute and fun rom coms that you say just one more chapter then read almost the entire book in one or two sittings. i read it pretty quickly because i really enjoyed it. the witty banter, the chemistry and interaction between the two main characters who both clearly had feelings for the other long before they admitted it to each other, and everything that finally led up to them getting together was great. i didnt want to put the book down at all and ended up reading it way too quickly because now i am done with it.

most of the rest of my thoughts are kind of spoilery so i will cut the rest: (view spoiler)[

~i was so glad that olive finally realized that adam was the bathroom guy. and that holden told her that adam had already liked her for quite some time. i guess adam didnt say anything because he was hoping olive would remember him and the first time they actually met on her own. little did he know she did, but because she couldnt see properly didnt realize it was him who inspired her and said all of the right things to get her to move forward with her research in their department.

~ugh it sickens me how often people like tom get away with things like he did because of power and success. i definitely think there was a lot of truth to the privileged white man statements in this book. no one should be forced into a sexual harassment scenario. and what kind of friend tells one of his best friend's gf's that he expects to sleep with her, too because she apparently likes to sleep her way to success? obviously one that isnt very loyal since he had no idea the relationship started off fake. i was so glad olive accidently recorded the entire scene. tom definitely deserved to be turned in and adam needed to see how despicable his friend actually was. thank goodness he was as disgusted as everyone else and stood by olive on that.

~and i know this is fiction but i was glad to see a story about someone doing research on pancreatic cancer and trying to help catch it in earlier stages since that can make a lot of difference in prolonging someone's life. unfortunately, i know of two different people who have suffered from this particular type of cancer and just recently lost one of them :( cancer has affected several people dear to me throughout my life and as technology and research gets better, i always hope that someday someone will find a cure.

~the support characters and interactions between the main characters and their best friends was a big part of what worked well with the story, too. their best friends always had their backs and good intentions regardless of how things seemed
-to the extent that anh didnt even want to date the guy she liked because she didnt want to upset olive; hence how the fake relationship scenario begun because olive wanted anh to be happy
-anh and malcolm both pushing olive out of her comfort zone many times throughout the book
-holden telling olive that adam liked her for a while and warning her to be careful around tom
-anh and malcolm pushing olive to tell adam the truth about her feelings and also come forward about what tom did
-malcolm and holden getting together and the whole REAL double-date towards the end

anyhow, i will definitely look for more books by this author in the future. it was a great light read with a HEA that made me want it to continue rather than end.

Almost DNF’d as it took me a while to get into it, but the second half was better than the first and actually made it a cute story overall.
