I got more than halfway through this so I’m marking it as read. But I just can’t stay with this. I’ve been in a book reading block for a couple of months now. I can’t really get into anything that’s not a reread. So maybe this book is a victim of that. But it felt to me like she was determined to throw ghosts in. (I love a good ghost story, so when the ghost aspect feels forced, it’s a turnoff.) Also, the main character has an invisible pet bird. Who has an attitude and gets huffy, etc. Except,

I always enjoy reading Sarah Addison Allen. Her combination of offbeat characters and magical realism always results in a surprising and memorable tale. This particular story is about letting go of the ghosts (literally) of the past and finding the people who allow you to be yourself.
