This book was so much more than its cute cover might have you believe. It's a bit far-fetched at times, but I really didn't care. Elizabeth Zott was ahead of her time, but it makes for a great story.

This book got off to a rough start and I almost put it down. Despite the cover blurb, I didn't find it “laugh-out-loud funny.” There's a lot of really heavy stuff in here. It's difficult to enjoy a read when the main character is forced to keep taking punches. In a book, however, the author can make it all better. I thought this book was well written and easy to read although I wouldn’t call the content light by any means. Elizabeth Zott is a scientist during a time where if you were anything more than a wife or mother (that was married) you were considered uncouth on top of which she is an atheist!! God forbid! The story tells of her twists and turns of navigating this reality in what appears to be the late 50’s/early 60’s. With her perseverance and unflappable demeanor you can’t help but root for her. O
