Ahh, to be the proverbial fly on the wall when Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen are brainstorming for their next collaboration would be the stuff dreams are made of. These two are wickedly clever and their books are always must-reads for me, and for the most part, this one did not disappoint.

The book has multiple plots that were masterfully interwoven. Avery was a successful therapist until several months ago, when she lost her license due to her controversial 10-step method of treatment. These two are wickedly clever and their books are always must-reads for me, and for the most part, this one did not disappoint.

The book has multiple plots that were masterfully interwoven. Avery was a successful therapist until several months ago, when she lost her license due to her controversial 10-step method of treatment. Now though, she is an even more successful “consultant,” and is in hot demand after her story was published in a renowned magazine. Enter Marissa and Mathew, the titled Golden Couple, who come to Avery for counseling after Marissa admits to a one-night stand. Avery immediately senses that something is off but agrees to help them, somewhat because she is trying to avoid some personal issues of her own. The ride gets bumpy along the way though when betrayal, murder, several stalkers, and an abundance of lies are added to the mix.

The plot unfolds through first-person chapters, alternating between Avery and Marissa. I really liked Marissa's story. I thought her chapters were intense and her backstory complex, with several big plot twists interspersed. But I must say that Avery's story just fell a bit flat. I think her backstory and was intended to make the reader fearful for her - sure, she has enemies, but their reasons for coming after her and the methods they employed to scare her were not overly believable. There were a just few too many coincidences and odd connections to feel realistic. In classic Hendricks/Pekkanen fashion, you don't really know who to trust and what is the truth, but I still found myself rooting for both Avery and Marissa in different ways. I felt satisfied with the ending - although some disclosures were not overly surprising, the last one was very well executed and the book's saving grace. The rescue dog storyline was brilliant and heartwarming as well!

Overall, I devoured this book and although probably not my favorite book this duo has penned, it is still a must-read book in my opinion. 4 stars!

After enjoying The Wife Between Us so much, I had to pick this one up. It turned out to be just as good! The story revolves around Marissa and Matthew Bishop and Avery Chambers - and no it's not a love triangle. Marissa and Matthew, by all outward appearances, are the perfect couple. They have it all - a beautiful home, an eight-year-old son, and they exude happiness. Matthew is successful at his job. But Marissa feels lonely. Marissa and Matthew Bishop have a lot of marital issues. When they seek out an unconventional therapist to help them navigate the rough waters, they have no idea what they're in for. Full of twists and turns, The Golden Couple is unpredictable and entertaining. As we're used to seeing in Hendricks/Pekkanen books, the book is narrated by two alternating points of view. The audio narration is performed by Karissa Vacker and Marin Ireland and it is a stellar performance.

4.5 Stars Such a great psychological thriller, the reader finds themselves on a constant roller coaster ride and I loved the slow smoldering build up to the delicious plot twist at the end. I listened to this on an audiobook format and the narration was superb.
