this book has received a lot of hype up and one of my book clubs picked it so i decided to read it. the main character, molly the maid, is very socially inept and kind of lost after her grandmother who raised her passed away. molly reminded me of a female version of eugene from the walking dead the way she spoke with her odd choice of words and lengthy responses. she is very dedicated to her job as a maid at a fa My truth is not the same as yours because we don’t experience life in the same way.

this book has received a lot of hype up and one of my book clubs picked it so i decided to read it. the main character, molly the maid, is very socially inept and kind of lost after her grandmother who raised her passed away. molly reminded me of a female version of eugene from the walking dead the way she spoke with her odd choice of words and lengthy responses. she is very dedicated to her job as a maid at a fancy and prestigious hotel, and unfortunately, she is way too trusting, which leads to her getting mixed up in something major. when one of the guests is found dead in his hotel room, molly is the first one to find him and she is also accused of murdering him due to a few things that also transpire. of course, there wouldnt have been much story if all of that hadnt happened, and since most of the rest of my thoughts are kind of spoilery i will cut here... so one thing i was trying to figure out was how someone with probably no prior work experience and who was so socially awkward would have possibly been hired to work at a fancy hotel - even though molly had mentioned that mr. preston was good friends with her gran and helped her get the job it seemed odd. but the explanation that gets revealed (sort of) made a lot more sense as to why he had such concern for molly and looked out for her, and luckily for her was absolutely there for her after she is accused of murder and with the help of his attorney daughter, they clear molly from all of the charges.

one thing that surprised me was that molly was actually capable of carrying out her gran's request and made me question whether or not she really possibly WAS guilty because it seemed like too much of a coincidence otherwise that things happened the exact same way. that surprised me and also when she pawned mr. black's ring. i know she needed rent money but doing something like that seemed too calculated and went against everything she normally stood for, so at one point i started wondering if after she was found not guilty there was going to be a twist and reveal on everything that she did really do it and was actually playing everyone who thought she wasnt capable. i was very glad that it wasnt the case and she really was innocent.

i was not surprised that rodney and giselle were seeing each other. i felt bad for molly for thinking she even had a chance with rodney when it was so clear he was taking advantage of her obvious interest in him to help with juan manuel's situation and eventually the bigger story. i was glad that giselle was truly a friend to molly in the long run and really didnt have any part of molly becoming involved with the drugs and murder. one good thing that came of their involvement was that molly and juan manuel both had feelings for each other and became a couple. i was glad that they found happiness with each other with all that they both had been through and that things were going much better for both of them by the end of the book.

i didnt realize this was this author's first book until after i read the bio stuff at the end of the book. considering that, it has certainly received a lot of publicity and overall was a pretty decent story so i would definitely check out other works in the future. ...more

I enjoyed the character of Molly the Maid immensely. I enjoy quirky characters and there was a decent mystery as well.

As this is a read for another book club that I am in, I don't want to reveal too much. However, I will say that I enjoyed it - particularly the surprise Prose wrote for her readers. I'm looking forward to discussing this in the book club and seeing the movie when it comes out. ...more
