I hate to say this, but I struggled with this book. I absolutely LOVED Stephanie Garber's Caraval series when I read it years ago. It is one of my favorite fantasy series. However, I just had such a hard time with this one. I read 20 chapters and then I took a break for over a week. I never take breaks when I read a book, but I had to pause this one and come back to it. I didn't like the main characters and I just found the plot a little boring. Shelves: magic, ya, fairytales

This is another book where the premise and the idea sound great, but the story doesn’t live up to the promise. The world building is a bit wishy-washy. The characters are very one-dimensional, and the lead is quite lacking. I will try the next (partly as I already downloaded it), as there is something in there that is still intriguing, and I’m hoping the sequel is better!
