In his naïveté, my father used to take his transplanted Yankee family for the proverbial Sunday drive through the back roads of Tennessee. An entertaining debut to this series. I rather like Bill's humour but it is a little clunky. At least I know the anthropological stuff will be very close to the bone - oh, hur, hur! I found it an interesting tale, if a bit hard on the Kitching clan. The combination of scientist & reporter seems to work pretty well, & I'd definitely give another one a go. ...more

This book is written by a scientist and it shows. It's very technical and reads like a textbook not a novel. I found it very dry and rather boring. I know it's about death and corpses but there was absolutely no life to the story. Just blah. It was tough to keep my mind on the mystery with all the extraneous medical and autopsy-like information thrown out there. This is not an author that I will read again. ...more
