"your book really sucked"

I love books. I love that we can each read the same one and have completely different ideas about if it was good or bad, if it was believable or not, if we'd recommend it to someone else, etc. Who among us hasn't read a book we thought was terrible?

I read No Exit and I absolutely loved it. This one was alright didnt really hold up to my expectation for some reason. Had a few twists that I didnt expect and I have to say didnt love any particular characters.

This was so hard to put down that if I could have, I would have read it in a day. It went on a little too long for its premise, though. But it was definitely entertaining.

How ironic that this book gets a star.....
For anyone that has read the book, you know.

This reminded me of the thriller movie Hush, where the woman is taunted by a guy in a mask outside her house; one clear difference, that movie was good.

This was so frustrating! And it gave me anxiety and not in a good way.
(Not that anxiety can be a good thing, but I'm referring to the type you have when reading or watching a thriller or horror book/movie)

This was one crazy and creepy ride from start to finish, more so because I read it mostly at night and the silence around me made it even scarier to read!

Emma Carpenter is house sitting an isolated beach house in summer and writes a one star review of a horror book that bought cheap and absolutely hated. Imagine if this whole book was a veiled threat not to rate it low?! Ingenious.

I liked the premise of this a ton. An author losing his mind over a one star review? Fun! Totally original. Overall I thought it was written well and your solid thriller.

But a couple of things were a bit problematic for me.

This entire book is a very big statement on why authors really shouldn't read reviews of their books. Reviews are for readers not for authors. This book was set on a nearly isolated coastline and both the environment and the house itself were so atmospheric and creepy. The book kept me reading as the author got more and more deranged. It's a little graphic in places, so if you prefer a cozy mystery, read cautiously.
