I loved the Chinese myth elements and the world in general. I also liked seeing Xingyin grow in the palace and her neverending wish to free her mother. I do wish this book spent less time on the romantic relationships as I feel they detracted from the story being told. I think they would've been better off as friends. I loved the banter and friendship but the relationship fell a little flat. The love triangle wasn't one I overly enjoyed.
The writing is beautiful and so is the setting but ...more

I thought this was such a great book! Once I got started it was hard to put down. I loved both the plot and characters of the story. Xingyin is such a great main character and was rooting for her from page one. I liked the romance she has with I think Sue Lynn Tan writes so beautifully. I was really engaged with the story from page one. I can not wait to read the squeal.
