in the seven kingdoms, selected people are born with a grace. katsa’s grace is killing, and her uncle, the king, uses this to his advantage. she meets prince po, whose grace is combat skills, and begins learning things about herself and her world that she never would have thought imaginable.

YA fantasy novels are usually full of tropes that cause me to roll my eyes. This is one of the earlier ones, so I had quite low expectations. Even with its fans who did re-reads for the release of the fourth book last year, WinterKeep. This one was one of the better ones I have read.

This book was awesome! Oh, goodness. I wish I had read it sooner. I will have to read the rest of the series.

I loved the character growth and magic system. I also enjoyed how these books function as stand-alone novels while expanding the world they all reside in. I forgot how much I loved every character. Why are these not more popular?
