I had a hard time getting in to the book. In the end it was very entertaining and I enjoyed all the bookish remarks. The alternate history was interesting. The Crimean war was still going on having lasted over hundred years already. And Wales had declared independence and was now the People's Republic of Wales. This was a strange but fun book. I liked the humour and the unexpected places the plot went. The world that was created is so bonkers and maybe it got a bit too silly at times but I enjoyed the adventure and the whole concept of literary detectives. I really warmed to Thursday, it was nice to read genre fiction with a slightly older protagonist and I think I will read more of this series particularly if I'm in the mood for something a bit silly. ...more
