3.5 stars. I liked the idea of this book but found the joke wore thin towards the end of the story.
I had a hard time getting in to the book. In the end it was very entertaining and I enjoyed all the bookish remarks. The alternate history was interesting. The Crimean war was still going on having lasted over hundred years already. And Wales had declared independence and was now the People's Republic of Wales. Rounding up from 4.5 to 5. This was a hoot, loved the premise and the character names are fun. Thursday Next is a SO (Special Ops) agent, Litera Tec they call themselves. This special department is in charge of protecting literature, going after rampant fakes, copyright infringements, the mundane. However, they also are in charge of protecting the first, original manuscripts and that is where the fun begins. What happens when people start popping in or out of an original manuscript?
