I picked this book up a long time ago, read a couple of chapters and decided it was boring, and put it back down. I really am glad I gave it another try - I felt completely differently this time. I liked the combination of literature, mystery, and time travel, but my favorite part by far was seeing all of Mycroft's inventions. I'd be happy to spend an entire book just exploring his workshop. ...more

I was disappointed by this one. I will admit the last 100 or so pages are quite good but the getting to that point was a slog. The characters and storyline just didn't do it for me until we got into the book itself I just didn't care.
I can't say I particularly liked Thursday as a character. She is boring. Our villain doesn't have enough explained about him nor enough reasons for being said villain, I needed more. The story was too all over the place for me. I have heard the rest of the series is ...more

This was an okay story. I was expecting to enjoy it more than I did, but I didn't hate it. At times the writing was hard to follow, and that is probably what most hampered my enjoyment, but I think I still might give the next book in the series a read.

I started reading this book a couple of weeks ago and have put it down several times. Today I decided to finish this boring piece of rubbish which took a whole lot of effort. Full of cliches this book was in dire need of a good editor. There were just too many flat characters with horrible names and I really didn't care about any of them....Jack Schitt,Thursday Next,Acheron Hades,Paige Turner.
