I will never not love this story. I think it's the whimsy of it, a novel length fairy tale. The mini dragons, the budding romance, the danger with the stakes that aren't too stressful. It's just magical and romantic and fantastical.

Admittedly, reading about Jacks hung up on Tella (who I already don't like) takes away from the romance between him and Eva for me. I just don't like a love story where the MMC wants another girl. It would be the same with Eva and Luk but she really doesn' ...more

4.5 stars. I actually loved this.

“Heroes don't get happy endings. They give them to other people.”

I loved seeing all the little tie ins between this and the original series and that this one started a little before that one ended. Getting to explore the North was so neat and I want more! The idea of little dragons who heat food and things was just so cool.
I also loved Evangeline more than I expected. She believes in love and hope and yes she is a little naïve but she grows a ton during this book ...more

I LOVED THIS BOOK!!!
when I read the Caraval Trilogy last year i fell in love with the world, the characters, the writing and the magicness of it all. So I was more than excited to jump into this series and read more about my favourite morally grey Prince of Hearts

Disclaimer: this is my first Stephanie Garber book.

I really wanted to like this book but just couldn't get over my frustration while reading it. The MC, Evangeline, is just so naive! And I mean like she could literally die because of her naivety. In my opinion, this book would be more suited to a Middle Grade, as the characters feel very young.
There is a lot of telling things instead of showing them (especially when it comes to love) and so many things just conveniently happen to fix e 2.5 stars.

It's not all bad. There is a lack of details in general but I will say, on the other hand, that actually means the book is really fast-paced, I can't remember a single time when I felt like it dragged on. Also, the Fates are amazing, interesting characters that I would love to know more about.
