Chasing the Boogeyman by Richard Chizmar has such a cool hook for a horror thriller novel. It's written in the style of true crime and it really works for the story. It was kind of tricky to get into the swing of the story, but once it got going (which was pretty quickly) I was hooked. I need to try more from this author in the future. ...more

A novel written in the style of a true crime book - its genius.

Richard Chizmar describes the - fictional - murders that took place in his hometown in 1988. An aspiring horror novelist, together with his journalist friend, he tries to track down the person responsible.

I loved this book, it brought me back to the old style horror movies of the 80's, think Halloween or Friday the 13th in book form and this is exactly what Chasing the Boogeyman is. I knew from the get go this was all fiction but t ...more

I thought this book was so well-written and I'm really glad I read it. I was a little confused at first because when I began reading it I thought it was nonfiction because the author wrote it in such a way that it has that feel to it; however, I checked the genre and it is both fiction and true crime. That is where I began to wonder what was factual and what was fiction. Chizman writes himself in the story as a young man just out of college and going into journalism.
