The writing really came alive for me in this book. I'm not sure why. It must have been something about Sookie's voice that just came across as very real to me. She was strong and independent but not in the way that a lot of YA female protags are where they lead revolutions and learn all sorts of skills. Sookie doesn't do that. She goes to work, takes care of her Gran and just wants to live in peace. That's just more real to me. Of course, the vampire & shapeshifter elements are what make the st

I guess I'm a little late to the True Blood Party. I watched some of the show and honestly I found it to be a bit too bloody for my taste and kind of tasteless so I stopped watching it as religiously as others. I bought the 1st book and kind of forgot about until now so I picked it up and gave it a try. It's an interesting take on vampires and the citizens of Louisiana. It's nothing special and I founjd that I felt the same way about the characters on the show as I did in the book so it seems th ...more

6/13/16 - This was a re-read for me. Quite an easy read. I really want to like and love this series, and I do...but I don't love it. I don't feel connected to the characters. I don't really care for them. For one, I hate their names. Sookie. Bill. Sid Matt Whatever. Eric is ok. Nice and normal. As is Jason. But Bill and Sookie - really?! My midwestern brain just can't take it.

So then there is the quick progression of the romance. Its too easy to me. There is no struggle. There is no woo-ing, if

This is the second book I have read by this author and I must say her writing style leaves a lot to be desired. At times I felt like the author lost her train of thought, started rambling and then all of a sudden got back on track. Lots of totally pointless information not to mention the terrible sex scenes LOL. I think the only character that was "real" enough to actually like was Sam.

At this time I don't know if I will continue on with this series. Not a book that I w

This was a re-read for me. I read it for the first time back in 2012 or 2013 and I think I was fresh off the Anita Blake books and these are so fluffy compared to those (which I used to love). Now Dead Until Dark feels more cozy to me, and I'm okay with that. I really like Sookie and feel she is a pretty stable character. She does some stupid crap like running off to start fights when she's never been in a fight before in her life....but she learns her lesson and uses her gift (or "disability: a ...more

Really good read - chatty style of writing, which I enjoyed. Didn't realise these were the books that True Blood is based on until I started reading! Going to read number 2 in the series now... ...more

Dead Until Dark was a very easy read, but there were several things I didn't care for with the book. The relationship, if you can call it that, between Sookie and Bill developed way too quickly for me.

I'm not a person that minds gore, but this book had some very disgusting things. One of them was when Bill (vampire) had Sookie (human) bite him and drink his blood - gross!

I personally didn't care for this book and more than likely won't be reading anymore in this series.

So, I did like this book. Sort of. Harris knows how to characterize very well, but Sookie is sort of annoying and I didn't expect it to turn into soft-core erotica, though I probably should have. Some parts are clever, other parts are not. Hoping the other books are better. ...more

I think I would have liked it better had I not already watched the tv series. Once you get certain characters and images in your mind it's hard to consider anything else being different and that is what kinda happened to me here but I am still going to carry on with the series because I heard they pick up and get much better! ...more
