Shelves: fantasy, new-adult

It was an interesting retelling of King Midas. But the triggers were too much and I had to pause several times and even contemplated on DNF-ing it as the cruelty and abuse inflicted were graphic and had me raging. The main character's choices, secrecy and way of thinking are annoying at first but there might be an end to that. Nevertheless I am looking forward to her growth, if ever. ...more

First, where was this supposed 'romance'? Surely, it wasn't meant to be Auren and Midas??? I thought for a moment that it might be Sail, *sigh* Sail. But obviously not. I'm still not over that. Grr. Glad that the Captain got what he had coming to him.

I was bored through the first half the book. The second half, really the last third, really picked up the pace though. Once the pirates showed up, there was constant action, which I appreciated. Even then, though it was when the soldier for the fou ...more

A spicy slow-burn, fantasy romp with an intriguing twist on the Midas mythos and some solid world building. Nice political intrigue, that gave it some depth. I started the second right as I finished.

I enjoyed the hell out of this. There are some ugly parts, but the world and everyone in it is really fascinating, and I feel like there is so much to be learned in future books. I have heard that the series just gets better so sign me up!
