I quite enjoyed this mystery that had probably too many twists and turns but it was such a fun ride that I didn't care. It also had some surprisingly poignant moments in it as well. Well, when the majority of the characters are very elderly, there is more than one kind of death in here and they were all treated correctly. I look forward to the next book by this author.

"After a certain age, you can pretty much do whatever takes your fancy. No one tells you off, except for your doctors and your children.”
It's very rare that you'll find me, nose in a book, laughing as I read. I don't tend to find books funny - but this one was a definite exception. I loved this ragtag group of retired armchair detectives. This has definitely cozy mystery feel only because they are in a retirement community - not because they don't all travel and move about as they interview, me ...more

I want to move to Cooper's Chase retirement village and solve mysteries in between conversational French lessons, eating in the upscale restaurant, and ticketing rogue cars in the parking lot.
The quartet of Elizabeth, Ibriham, Ron, and Joyce are so fun. Each has a skill set that helps them piece together clues from cold cases and, that in turn, helps them solve the present day murder(s). I can't wait to read more later in the year. ...more

Loved it. A gentle comedy and murder mystery. I love the ageing sleuths and their ability to cut right to the heart of things. The timing is right, oldies can't be tearing around the place like their much younger counterparts, so things moved more slowly &, perhaps, more smoothly.

I actually enjoyed this book. A few years ago I downloaded this book for my mom thinking she would love it because she reads every kind of mystery book I can download for her (she lost her eyesight so I had to do audiobooks for her). She didn't really like it as much as I thought she would. She and I have similar tastes in books and I thought I probably wouldn't like it either. I was wrong.

I enjoyed this book which has the zaniest character list i have ever encountered in an underused setting. I loved that the pensioners led the police around by their noses solving everything before them and mostly witholding all information. At the same time there are plenty of twists in the plot - making it difficult to see where it is all going and therefore the reveals keep the reader interested. It would make a great TV series with Judi Dench, Celia Imrie and Julie Walters. Come on BBC get it

The Thursday Murder Club is a witty, cozy mystery that feels like a modern homage to the golden age of crime writing. Four retirees—Elizabeth, Joyce, Ibrahim, and Ron—spend their time in a quiet retirement village digging into unsolved crimes, until a real murder lands right on their doorstep.
Richard Osman’s writing is charming, full of humor, and surprisingly moving. What I loved most is how the book balances clever sleuthing with deeper reflections on friendship, aging, and finding purpo ...more

Elizabeth, Joyce, Ibrahim and Ron all live in the retirement village of Coopers Chase and they formed the Thursday Murder Club group which reviews cold case files and tries to solve them. When two murders occur in the present, both connected to a planned expansion of Coopers Chase, the four take up their own investigation and "assist" the polcie, Chris and Donna. The four members of the club were a hoot and the mysteries were interesting. There was a lot going on and the book switches between al
