What Members Thought
What a fantastic novel. I am not a gamer (the only game I've ever actually played is Mario Kart!), and I am a child of the 90s not the 80s. I still loved this book. Loved might not be a strong enough book. Cline has created a world within a world. The "real world" is only 30 years in the future, and the scariest part for me was that most of the disaster that have hit society are issues that are constantly in the news as potential threats today: global warming, energy crises, wars, etc. The game

I don’t usually read too many books that are targeted to the adult crowd, even though this one is I could see many young adult readers enjoying this book. This book was great. Action packed, suspenseful, humorous, intense… I could go on.
The plot of the story was so original from anything I have read in the past. I wasn’t sure how I would receive the story but it has some great reviews, so I decided to give it a try.

I would say this is definitely a book for boys or girls who really like video games. I liked getting to know the future world but spending too much time in the game play part of the book distracted me. That is not to say that there are many people who wouldn't enjoy this, I am just giving you my opinion.
The summary is that a very wealthy man who created a gaming world (much like Second Life) passes away. Instead of leaving his fortune to friends or family he has left it in the form of a contest ...more

I enjoyed this book with all of its 80's references. It was a different type of book to read. Sometimes it got a little to wordy during some of the battles but it was still enjoyable.

This was really good. I loved all the 80's references. The story was interesting and entertaining, but had a good message as well. Will Wheaton was phenomenal narrating as well.
