I have been wanting to read Sue Grafton for awhile but I kept putting it off because my father didn't care for her books. I didn't love the book yet I didn't hate the book either. A is for Alibi was an enjoyable read. I will try her books again.

This story is about a PI, Kinsey Millhone, who is hired by a woman, Nikki Fife, who was found guilty of murdering her husband. Nikki hires Kinsey to prove that she was innocent. As Kinsey starts looking at everyone that knew Nikki's husband back then I ha

Kinsey Millhone is a former policewoman turned private investigator in this first novel of the series by Sue Grafton. Her client is a woman recently released from serving a prison term for murdering her husband. She wants Kinsey to prove that she was innocent. The investigation does find the person responsible for his death as well as another previously unsolved murder. The action takes twists and turns and takes Kinsey to several locations including the bright lights of Las Vegas. Throughout he ...more

This is the first book in the Alphabet Series by Sue Grafton.

Eight years ago Lawrence Fife was murdered, his wife Nikki was accused, tried and found guilty.
It seems plenty of people had reason to want him dead or didn't really care since his reputation doesn't help being a divorce attorney and a philanderer too.
Now Nikki is out on parole, she hired Kinsey Millhone a private investigator to discover who the real killer is.
She has to discover that fast because it seems the killer is not very happy

Your typical mystery/who-done it novel. Good but nothing too extraordinary. I'm not sure if I will continue with the series or not. I was frustrated with the ending. There was a lot of character acquisition and I enjoyed getting to know the characters. The ending however, was very abrupt. I had about 10-15 pages left and thought "There is no way that this author can wrap this up". She did. There is no TO BE CONTINUED...... it was just The End (duh duh duh)(think Belt on The Croods). Rumor has it ...more

This book suffered only from its age and the proliferation of CSI style pop culture. She continually left crime scenes without reporting any of it to the police and, in fact, lying to them about it. I kept waiting for her to get caught in her lies. But the story progressed nicely and I'm interested to see where this series goes as she continues across the decades. ...more

I only seem to like crime novels when there are serial killers and a high body count and lots of adrenaline. Lots of clues and witnesses in this book, but not enough action for me.
