I wasn't sure what to expect going into this. A lighthearted, funny read perhaps? In the end I got what I thought it might be and so much more but it took some turns to get it there. Right off, I liked the writing style, but disliked Wallace so intensely. He made the book feel dry yet I saw and felt the humorous potential. It had me questioning my reading taste in trying this but I keep reading. Glad I did. The humor does warm up. The sweet bonds created amongst characters was more than I expect

This book had some beautiful moments but I found it longer than it needed to be and the start quite slow. Yes that start was important in setting the tone of Wallace's character but I didn't enjoy it very much.
It's about what it means to be alive, how to come to terms with death and how everyone's process will be different. It's a story about what makes a life mean something and how it is never to late to do something good. This is a tale that in many ways has been told before, and whil ...more
