Ok, the people are absolutely the worst; the dialogue is ridiculous and annoyingly horrible…but stick with it, there’s a level of redemption that makes me not sad I read it.
This is the third book I’ve read by Backman and for the life of me I can’t figure out how he has such a hold on so many readers.
I absolutely hated the first 40% of this book. The characters were so over the top obnoxious that I almost DNF but gritted my teeth and kept listening because it was for book club. The second half of the book was good. Really enjoyable. But what use is a good ending if the beginning is so aggravating you never finish it?
