Frostbite, the second book of the Vampire Academy series picks up where the first book left off. It begins with Rose and Dimitri driving off to meet up with a legendary Dhampir named Arthur Schoenberg. Rose being a trainee guardian; was scheduled to take her qualifying field test with the famed Strigoi slayer as her appointed judge, but when the A thrill to read. Rose being a trainee guardian; was scheduled to take her qualifying field test with the famed Strigoi slayer as her appointed judge, but when they reached their destination they discover a scene of a ghastly Strigoi attack.

With the discovery that the Strigoi are targeting Vampire Royals, Saint Vladimir's Academy is on red alert. You'd think Rose had enough things to worry about. Problem 1: Her duty to protect her best friend Lissa (the last of the Dragomir royal line), whom she shares a bond with. A bond that allows her to experience what Lissa is feeling, which can be quite awkward now that she is constantly with her boyfriend, the snarky Christian Ozera. Problem 2: Rose has to stifle her feelings for her tutor, Dimitri, who seems to be falling into the arms of Tasha Ozera (Christian's aunt). Problem 3: Her friend Mason, wants to be more than just friends. On top of all that, she gets an unsuspected surprise when her famous Dhampir mother shows up to add more chaos to her already full plate.

With the Strigoi at large, and Christmas vacation drawing near, the school sends everyone to an exclusive Moroi ski lodge to ensure the safety of the students and their families. It seems like the perfect vacation for Rose till she meets the man of her dreams (in a matter of speaking) Adrian Ivashkov, the Don Juan of Moroi royalty.
Trouble ensues as Rose discovers that she inadvertently caused Mason (her admirer) to race off with two companions in tow, hell-bent on revenge against the Strigoi who attacked the royals.

With a series of comical jealously fits, glimpses of erotic experiences, drunken moments, fast-paced action, suspense, and some teen drama thrown in, FrostBite proves to be a winning sequel.

Frostbite was one of those books which actually made me cry, it was extremely touching and sad. For the first part of the book not much was happening, there was more Lissa and Christian love and Rose's jealously toward Dimitri and Tasha. Rose's mother Janine Hathaway made the book more interesting and more relationships were formed. In the end all the action happened. I fell in love with Adrian right away. Yes, I still like Dimitri and I totally wish he and Rose would finally get together or at least sort stuff out, but... Adrian.
But he's almost besides the point.
Rose's love life is not the main concern, thank God.
There is plenty of action here, so Richelle Mead does not disappoint. And seriously, I almost cried when (someone) died. Sorry for almost spoiling it, but it was pretty heartbreaking, I had to mention it slightly. Overall I liked it and I cannot wai ...more
