DNF about maybe 45-50%. I skimmed it to the end after that.

I really like the Christina Lauren writing team. I mean, I did not like the Unhoneymooners and seem to be in the minority on that opinion, but for the most part I really enjoy them.

This one just caught me wrong I guess. Chapter one was so sort of over the top 'lovesick vibes' you 100% knew that was going to be blown all to hell and it was. The 'misunderstanding' seemed to happen mostly because Lily was a bit immature. So, that was frustr DNF about maybe 45-50%. I skimmed it to the end after that.

I got really kind of over the story when the Terry thing happened. I'm trying not to do spoilers but Terry is set up as the characature of 'the bad guy' from the beginning and then, well, he turned out to be the bad guy. But he goes off in this big scene and no one asks the obvious question. The glaringly obvious question because they all flew there together on a plane. He FLEW on a plane so...where did all the 'stuff' in his pack come from? Cuz, he did not bring it on the plane. But, no one asks this, no one even thinks it, ever, and it comes back later to bite them in the butt and they are SO shocked that he wasn't working alone and just...ugh.

Also, after Terry exits the story they are all like...well, we don't want to get in trouble for this but instead of doing the grown up thing and going to a Ranger Station and clearing this all up they decide to go on a treasure hunt for a few days. Even after one of them gets hurt they are like "We have to keep going because we can't pass up this one and only chance to find this treasure because we will never ever have this chance again ever! So, let's split up and the two lovebirds can go forth on this dangerous adventure on their own to find treasure and have an opportunity to have enough plausible privacy for sexing." But, why? Lily LIVES there. She has the maps, she has the ability to make this trip pretty much anytime she wants. It's literally her job to go out into the wilderness and lead treasure hunts. And, if it's such a big deal, the guys could just extend their trip, or plan another trip in a few months to come back when they have the appropriate gear, provisions and time. It just all seems a bit...just nonsensical. And yes, I did skim to the end so I know why one of the guys was pushing to go on but, everyone agreed even though they didn't have the same motivation and that was just... ugh...eyeroll...why?

But, like, I know there wouldn't be a book without all the drama or whatever but still. I just didn't want to stick with these characters who seemed so ridiculous.

Except Walter...I liked Walter.

Anyway, I'd still recommend you try it for yourself. I'm probably being overly judgy. There are some twists and turns along the way and a couple of codes to break. You might enjoy it. ...more

First read this book in 2023 and gave it 4 🌟

Reread it in 2024 as an audiobook which was EXCELLENT and I raise this to 5 ✨

The romance is swoony and the adventure is a blast. If you’re looking for a romance that has an action-filled plot and the conflict comes more from external circumstances than silly last minute issues, this is for you.

Since when did CL start writing their books in the third person narrative? It’s such a disconnect for the reader. When it’s written this way, it’s almost impossible to grasp any sort of connection with the characters. I couldn’t make it past the third chapter, sadly.
