I don't give books a 1-star rating often, especially when it's a debut - I appreciate how much work an author has to put into writing a novel and feel that they should be encouraged to write more and more and 1 star is anything but that.
However, as it was a group read for me, I gave this book a lot of thought and when it came to rating it I realized that there was nothing about this book that appealed to me.

Super cute! Loved the characters. Jas is great! Was rooting for her (not just for things to work out with Alex but for everything going on in her life) the whole time.

It gave me vibes of In the Heights combined with Tweet Cute. It also made me really hungry for donuts and Chinese food. It’s such a great young adult read for the theme of finding your way even with family tension. Two different interesting backgrounds, even both being Chinese/Chinese American.
