The key word is survival.

Does magic ever really leave or can we find it again under new gods? Can we find new versions of ourselves in new environments?

This fantastical, painful, hopeful, streampunk story was pure gold!

Every one of the stories dives deeply into some aspect of racial, cultural or social importance and most of them use mythical, fantastical or science-fiction elements to explore this really heavy terrain. Most of the writing is beautiful though at times Liu has a tendency to state points He’s already made through telling a story which can come off as a bit heavy handed.
