The Bookmaking Habits of Select Species- 5 stars. That was beautiful. Everyone makes books indeed.
State change- 4 stars
Sometimes you need a state change. I am loving the metaphor in these stories!
The Perfect Match- 3 stars
Definitely says some things that should be heard and i'm not discounting that, but it seems more full of doom and gloom than it needs to be. There are good sides to social media too. Stuff that has saved my life and sanity in personal ways. Like most things in life it isn't bl ...more

Good Hunting ★★★★★
The key word is survival.
Does magic ever really leave or can we find it again under new gods? Can we find new versions of ourselves in new environments?
This fantastical, painful, hopeful, streampunk story was pure gold!

The Paper Menagerie ★★★★★
I listened to this story while walking my dogs. Thankfully, I wore big sunglasses because I cried the whole time. Big fat tears I had to periodically take off my glasses to swipe. Ken Liu gave hearts blood for this story, it deserved a ...more

This is one of the better story collections I've read in years, and possibly the best book I've read thus far this year. The worst story here is still pretty good, and the best are moving, thought-provoking and beautiful.
There are a few recurring themes here: The recurrence/importance of the past; the difficulties of integrating into a new society; and generational divides. These themes are woven through various tales, often together. The best of these stories use these themes to make points tha ...more

4.5
It was so quit yet so powerful.
I usually cannot enjoy or appreciate a story at page one because I take time to start feeling something about it but here, I was sold.
It was not exactly the most joyful story to read and I was kind of depressed so it didn't help but it was so strong and totally heart wrentching.
You basically follow the story of a young boy who is byracial during the 70' in America and the way he rejetcts his origins to fit in and oh my.
