In a null-space outside of time, but still connected to the Change Winds of the Change War, a couple of soldiers recuperate with the rest-stop staff, and wonder what the war is for and what's the point of fighting. Very Fritz Leiber, in that he can enjoy having an Elizabethan souse next to a flapper next to a Nazi, and have them all conversing at once.
